~~19th c. Redware Pie Dish - Best Caramel Glaze - Civil War Period~~

I am offering for your consideration an exceptional Civil War period hand turned redware pie dish with a crackled brown (caramel) glaze.

This piece has an inverted lip and a distinct canted form. It measures 11 1/2 inches x 2 1/4 inches tall.

the condition is excellent. I see no cracks or hairlines.

There are a few small areas on the interior where the glaze has popped enabling the redware clay to show through.

The bottom of this early pie dish has blackened from being used on an open fire. The patina left on the canted sides is extraordinary and to be appreciated.

Circa mid 1800's. Berks County Pennsylvania origin.
