~~Rare Early Original Graduated Nest Of 5 Stoneware Bowls~~

I am offering for your consideration an outstanding original nest of five (5) early graduated stoneware bowls. I have been advised that they likely date from the mid to late 19th century. I was also informed that the glaze is an alkaline glaze comparible to Albany slip (an extremely dark (almost black) brown) with opalescence. They are absolutely gorgeous! The clay/stoneware that is visible (on the base) is a medium yellow in color and not a brash white or tan!

This group has a nice early and somewhat unique outer form similar to that of a pudding mold with a narrow flat rim and a raised base!

This graduated group of nested bowls measure (beginning with the smallest) 5 inches x 2 3/4 inches, 6 inches x 3 inches, 7 inches x 3 3/4 inches, 8 inches x 4 1/4 inches and the largest measures 9 inches x 4 3/4 inches. The first measurement is the diameter and the second measurement is the height.

They are in very good condition. There are a few areas where the glaze did not adhere (as shown), however there are no chips. The next to the smallest one has a very tight hairline, however no separation exists nor have any chips resulted from it.

This wonderful graduated group was originally purchased in Pennsylvania out of a private collection. This is an original authentic set (not put together) that has somehow remained in excellent condition for many years. In addition, they are unmarked, so I am unable to determing the maker.

What a rare find!
